Were the new 20-lire pieces of 1957 ever called "Marenghi?" Maybe in fun? Maybe as wry comment?

Can anyone please say why it was allowed to seemingly wither in 1959 and then die?

I think it's better if you ask in Repubblica ;)

The ‘Repubblica Italiana’ 20-lire coins minted from 1957 to 1959 have the reeded edge, whereas those minted later (1968-2001) have the smooth edge.

I think that only the 20-lire pieces minted from 1957 to 1959 are called "Marenghi" because these 20-lire gold coins too have a reeded edge.
