Uncirculated; lustrous. Scarce.
Despite the reverse dating, this token was issued in 1881 and had a value of 19 cents. At this time the mills employed around 1,500 staff. It was designed by the manager of the mills, Charles Hendry.

Lot 3004. (circa 1828) 1/24RL American Plantations 1/24 Part Real, Restrike, MS64 NGC. Newman 4-E, W-1155, R.5. Richard Holt received a Royal coinage franchise in 1688 for the purpose of an authorized coinage to be used in the British colonies in America. The coins were made of nearly pure tin and were susceptible to severe corrosion or black oxidation. The dies were still in existence 140 years later when these Restrikes were produced in 1828. The restrikes are also often found corroded. This Choice Mint State example has some typical surface roughness yet retains full underlying luster beneath the deep gray patina.
