villa66 Inviato 9 Dicembre, 2017 Autore #4 Inviato 9 Dicembre, 2017 This is just my own speculation. I was hoping to learn whether there might be any truth in it. On a German coin forum I sometimes visit, a collector had acquired an old and massive hoard of 5- and 10-pfennig pieces from Imperial times. There seems to be a chance that the hoard was accumulated directly (or nearly so) from circulation, so I was very interested in the few foreign coins that had made it into the group. One of them was a 20-centesimi of the 1894-95 type, but given its condition--and its surroundings--I thought for maybe two seconds that I was looking at a copper-nickel 20-pfennig. My mistake made me wonder if these two contemporaries might have been confused (or mis-used) for one another in their own time. I also put the question here (in mirror image) on the German forum, but as yet have had no positive replies. Sorry the news isn't more interesting.... v. Cita
