1 Cita

This didramma is now offered for the second time, it wasn't sold in the autumn auction for 10.000 € for good reasons https://www.felzmann.de/auction/Antike_Griechen.aspx?rownum=5&backid=ib635381185029723143&lager=00147&los=5&ActiveID=1241〈=de 4 coins in this auction were withdrawn (although accompanied by certificates) photos below (These coins now show in coinarchives!) and some silly coins were sold (show in coinarchives, too) https://www.felzmann.de/auction/Antike_Griechen.aspx?rownum=7&backid=ib635381185029723143&lager=00147&los=7&ActiveID=1241〈=de https://www.felzmann.de/auction/Antike_Griechen.aspx?rownum=8&backid=ib635381185029723143&lager=00147&los=8&ActiveID=1241〈=de https://www.felzmann.de/auction/Antike_Griechen.aspx?rownum=14&backid=ib635381185029723143&lager=00147&los=14&ActiveID=1241〈=de I saw the whole collection before it was offered for auction. To my opinion all expensive Greek coins were forgeries (two Naxos tetras with the squatting satyr in bad style from identical dies!) acraf Inviato 11 Giugno, 2014 Autore #30 Inviato 11 Giugno, 2014 Thank you for the interesting information. In effect I can confirm, from other confidential sources, that practically all important Greek coins in Felzmann were forgeries, made available in local market at least in autumn 2013. It is important to have adequate images of coins, possibly also proposed but not gone in auction. The lawfulness of a similar information constitutes a serious problem in a forum. Some forums, such as FAC, are of commercial property and, therefore, there are some turbulent relationship towards coins present in the market and of high value…. The problem of the definitive identification of a forgery, especially if of some quality and importance, is very complex. It should be useful to mark similar specimens, but who would have the right to apply such a label? Imagine an unsuspecting collector who delivers an important coin of its property in auction, which then turns out to be false. In theory a serious auction house should rely on an expert, to confirm whether or not the falsity of the coin. But if confirmed, what can you do?I do not think there is a right to deface a coin, even if false, with a special punch. The collector would have every right to claim back the money as it is.In my humble opinion, the only possibility is to encapsulate the coin in a box that is sealed and marked externally as false. But this solution alone is not enough: anyone can ever break the seal and recover the money to put it back into circulation. In addition, it is necessary to introduce a good color photograph on a specialized database for forgeries, possibly with an identification code.Really I know that some numismatic companies are collecting privately images of forgeries for their records, very useful, of course, for professional purposes. But I believe that none has pleasure to share such information……….. 1 Cita
njmolinari Inviato 12 Giugno, 2014 #31 Inviato 12 Giugno, 2014 I could help make a website of all of these fakes, but I don't have the experience to condemn coins myself. We could establish a process in which each potential forgery is properly vetted, unless already published. Cita
numa numa Inviato 12 Giugno, 2014 Supporter #32 Inviato 12 Giugno, 2014 That would be a very useful tool Nick Not something institutional, by the way only IAPN today would be in a position to do spmething mire properly legitimized in this sense. At least to have a website where suspicious coins would be exanined by experts for each category and be properly recorded would be something already But beware of hackers ! :) Cita
njmolinari Inviato 12 Giugno, 2014 #33 Inviato 12 Giugno, 2014 (modificato) Well, I'm thinking something along institutional lines with the collaboration of professionals. Something with teeth, in association with the IAPN, where there are immediate ramifications for peddling forgeries. Otherwise we can vet forgeries here and on FAC and upload them to FAC and Forgery Network, so there is no need for another database. Modificato 12 Giugno, 2014 da njmolinari Cita
