Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress / Eagle standing to right on thunderbolt, head left, ΑΛΕΞΑΝ[ΔΡΟΥ] around; monogram to left. Questo è il tetra suberato di Seleuco I corrispondente alla dramma al post # 50. Qui però il grado di conservazione è notevole, come pure il prezzo di aggiudicazione: 2700 € alla Gorny dell'ottobre 2005.

Vs.: Büste des Seleukos I. mit einem Helm der mit einem Pantherfell überzogen und mit Stierohren und -hörnern versehen ist. Rs.: BASILEWS SELEUKOU, Nike bekränzt ein Tropaion, unten AP (P retrograd), AX und Monogramm. SC 173 (Var. Kombination der Monogramme von 173.14 und 173.16). Subärat! Vz.

SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator. 312-280 BC. AR Fourrée Tetradrachm (12.79 gm, 6h). Imitating Susa mint. Struck after circa 305/4 BC. Head of hero (Alexander or Seleukos?) right, wearing helmet covered with panther skin and adorned with the ear and horns of a bull / BASILEWS SELEUKOU, Nike standing right erecting trophy; M below left wing, AX in field between Nike and trophy. Cf. SC 173.14; cf. Kritt, Early Tr.104 (A62); cf. ESM 420; SNG Spaer -; cf. Houghton 1025. Near EF, light porosity.

Suberato evidente dalla zona di frattura del rivestimento d’argento sul rovescio, ma del peso di una moneta autentica. Il motivo è attribuibile alla presenza di piombo, un metallo di densità maggiore dell’argento, oltre al rame nella lega che compone la parte interna della moneta.

 

 

Seleukid Kingdom. Antiochos I. 281-261 B.C. Fourrée tetradrachm (28 mm, 17.18 g). Pergamon, under Philetairos but in the name of Seleukos I, ca. 279-274 B.C. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress / Zeus seated left, holding eagle and sceptre; helmeted head of Athena right in left field, crescent below throne. Cf. SC 308b.
