Bronzo di Gadara ‘Herakles left’

Nella ricerca di monete con la raffigurazione di Eracle a sinistra sul diritto, ho trovato questo bronzo che credo si collochi tra le monete di questa sezione (Roman provincial coins).

Decapolis, Gadara AE 22. Struck during the campaign of Pompey the Great, 64/63 BC (Civic Year 1 of the Romans), Autonomous Issue. Obv: Bust of Herakles left, wearing lion's skin headdress, holding club over left shoulder. Rev: Ram of galley right, inscription Λ A (date) / PΩMHE Legend in two lines above rostrum right, all within wreath. 22mm, 9.78g.

In 64-63 BC Roman troops, under Pompey, liberated the Greek cities conquered by Alexander Jannaeus. Pompey personally supervised the reconstruction of Gadara. In commemoration of this event, the people of Gadara established the year 64-63 BC as the beginning of a new era for their history, in substitution for the Seleukid era.

Bella moneta. Ho visto che alcune aste la collocano in Syria, ma mettono la città come non conosciuta, pur riconoscendo la classificazione come riportato sopra, probabilmente l'unica che la colloca a Gadara.

Anche altri esemplari sono attribuiti a Gadara, come questo.
