Risposte migliori

Hi everybody,

I´m looking for the photos of the Montagu (Rollin & Feuardent 1896) and Ponton d´Amécourt (Feuardent 1887) collections.

I would like to know if any forum member has the Caruso catalogue (Canessa 1923) and if is possible to know what coins had bought Caruso (aureus, solidus, medallion ...) of these collections.

I can confirm the next exemplars:

- 60 asses, 126 = Montagu 6.

- Antoninus Pius quinarius 333 = Montagu 319.

- Claudius and Agrippina 199 = Amécourt 100. Now in the ANS collection.

Thank you very much,

tito

These are the coins found in auction Canessa (Caruso) ex Montagu.

Unfortunately I have the Canessa catalogue not original but reprint Forni: the table of photographs are not good (it 's almost impossible to find coins former Montagu between the Byzantine coinage).

Caruso 126 = Montagu 6

Caruso 155 = Montagu 105

Caruso 300 = Montagu 299

Caruso 301 = Montagu 300

I'm not sure about this coin too:

Caruso 552 = Montagu 826 (ex collez. Ponton d'Amecourt)

It's all about Canessa-Montagu: I hope you did not forget some other coins

Legionario and Picchio, thank you very much for your help. I appreciate very much the given information.

At present I have 352 photos of the Montagu and 177 of the Amécourt (including museums and databases -acsearch, coinarchives ...).

In my opinion the Augustus quinarius, Caruso 155 is not Montagu 105. The Montagu exemplar is actually in the ANS (1956.184.17).

- Hadrianus, Caruso 301 = Montagu 300, should be also Amécourt 247. http://www.cngcoins....px?CoinID=85242 and

http://gallica.bnf.f...amecourt.langFR

Sorry, but I don´t know how to upload images in the forum.

- Severus Alexander. Caruso 470 = Montagu 554 = Amécourt 464 = Sotheby 1993, Athena Found I.

Caruso 468 is not Montagu 557. Now in the British museum. http://www.britishmu...asset_id=659087

- Licinius, Caruso 543 = Montagu 789. Possibly. http://www.acsearch....ort=&c=&a=&l=#0

- And finally Constantine I. Caruso 552 = Montagu 872. I think not, because the RIC VII Trier 356 cited 5 examplars: B, V, Caruso (now in Rome), Ars Classica XVII, 1888 = Montagu, and Feuardent 1898.

This is the information that I have in my archives.

In my opinion the Augustus quinarius, Caruso 155 is not Montagu 105. The Montagu exemplar is actually in the ANS (1956.184.17).

Unfortunately neither Bahrferld "Die Römische Goldmünzenprägung" (Bahrfeld 119,3) nor King "Roman Quinarii" (King 5c) are not helpful (both refer Montagu): I can only add the the Montagu exemplar was also sold by Hirsch 29 (4/11/1910) lot 917

the weight:

Montagu = gr. 3.93

Canessa = gr. 3.85

Caruso 333 = Montagu 319

Caruso 376 = Montagu 390

also King “Roman Quinarii” confirms:

(King 13f): Caruso 333 = Montagu 319

(King 9b): Caruso 376 = Montagu 390

the only one coin in private hands http://numismatica-c...ssaggi/R-A4/6-1

Caruso 129 = Christie's (collez. The Property of a Lady) 8/10/1985 lotto 2
