CELTIC, Lower Danube. Uncertain tribe. Circa 2nd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 13.58 g, 3 h), imitating Audoleon of Paeonia. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. AVΛΩoΛEN - TOΣ Celticized horseman to right, wearing plumed helmet; below foreleg, pellet; below horse, triskeles-shaped punch. Pozzi (Boutin) 100 (this coin). Lanz 704-705. OTA pl. 32, 402.4 (this coin). A beautifully toned and very well pedigreed piece of fine style. Good very fine.

Nur wenig verrät an diesem Stück von beeindruckend feinem Stempelschnitt die keltische Imitation: Im Avers ist dies die grotesk eingezogene Unterlippe, die das Kinn unförmig hervorspringen lässt. Im Revers, dessen Pferdedarstellung ganz den späten Philippeiern entspricht, weisen zunächst die Chlamys und der kranzartige Kopfschmuck des Wagenlenkers auf eine falsche Bildauffassung. Indem er das Wagenrad zudem zu einem sternförmigen Ornament umgestaltet, verleiht der Stempelmeister dieser Münze einen subtilen keltischen Beiklang.

Non conosco il peso della moneta e il diametro e' all' incirca di   14mm, argento.

e' stata indossata per almeno 50 anni se non di piu', ancora incastonata, sul rivescio vedo quello che sembrano depositi e.....

È una moneta di fantasia con al diritto Eracle in leontè (come sulle dramme e sui tetradrammi del Grande) e al rovescio la raffigurazione tipica di un quarto di statere in oro dello stesso sovrano (figura in alto).

La figura in basso rappresenta la riproduzione in argento della frazione di statere sovrastante.
