Buonasera, eccola qui! speriamo in bene ho un sacco di monete a casa, ma aiutandomi con voi, ho scoperto che sono tutte patacche..questa moneta se non sbaglio era stata regalata a mio padre da un suo amico archeologo.Spero non sia un altra patacca!

SICILY  GELA.

Tetradrachm, about 425 BC. AR 16.89 g. GELWIoN (in exergue). Nike, wearing long chiton, hair in a chignon, standing in a slow quadriga r., holding reins with both her hands; above, laurel wreath. Rev. Youthful head of the river god Gelas l., thin band in the short hair, small bull's horn above forehead; around, three fishes (mullets?). Jenkins 256, 456 (these dies). Kraay-Hirmer pl. 58, 164 (these dies). Very rare and of best classical style, masterpiece of the Sicilian coinage. Obv. with slightly rough surface.

Speriamo non sia una patacca.

Comunque attorno alla testa di quella moneta ci sono tipo rami d'ulivo,nella mia sono tre pesci, sembrano delfini

Piu che altro non l'ha trovo da nessuna parte.

Sai dirmi cosa c'è scritto sul retro ?

Extremely rare, only twelve specimens known to Jenkins.
A craftsmanship in the finest classical style, lightly toned and good very fine
Ex NFA XVI, 1987, 33 and Sotheby’ s Zürich 26.10.1993, 7 sales. This exceptional tetradrachm of around 425 is one of the finest examples of coin production not only in Gela, but over Sicily as a whole. It is exceptional both for the pleasant re-working of traditional designs and for the incomparable beauty of the portrait of the fluvial divinity, Gela. On the obverse, we find the goddess Nike, as charioteer, with a quadriga on the right. One of the horses is depicted behind the other, using the perspective effect of double contour. The horses’ heads are held parallel and their back hooves are clearly raised off the ground. The charioteer is wearing a long chiton (tunic) with a high belt, her wings half open, and her hair gathered in a chignon. She holds the reins with both hands, and her right hand also clasps a whip. Above the horses is an olive crown (also thought to be a laurel). Jenkins says: "The style is extremely refined and elegant; the long sinuous curve of the horses’ bodies from the rump to the top of the head has close affinities to some of the deities of Selinus. The style of these Gelean deities is as distinct as the engravings on the reverse side (bear in mind that the image of Nike as a charioteer is found only on coins minted in Gela and Akragas; other gods represented as charioteers on Sicilian coins are Apollo and Artemis in Selinunte, Athena in Camarina and Demetra, and perhaps Eros, in Syracuse). The reverse depicts a beautiful, clean-shaven young head of the river god Gela, facing left. Only a horn on the front of his head and a half bull-like ear (the lobe human) remain of the more primitive, beastly aspect of this god. His hair is cut short and is arranged in symmetrical plaits held together by a diadem. To the left and right of the head and below the neck are three fish, perhaps mullet, obviously referring to the god Gelas’ power over the seas. The wreath on the obverse could be associated with a Gela’s victory in the Sicilian war of 427-424.

Sull'autenticità della tua ho molti dubbi.

A vederla cosi,sembra un altro tipo di metallo. con il peso più o meno ci siamo apparte quelle due sporgenze.

Con il tempo la forma della moneta puo cambiare?

Magari capire di che materiale è fatta?

Perdonami ma la tua monetanon mi fa una buona impressione, per prima cosa sembra quasi come fosse formata da due metà unite in secondo luogo l'aspetto del metallo non sembra quello che dovrebbe essere cioè non sembra argento e ha delle strane porosità e le figure non sono ben definite/impastate, tuttavia attendi i pareri dei professionisti prima di fare qualunque cosa

Anche per me non è moneta, concordo in toto con quanto detto da chi mi ha preceduto e aggiungo che sembra quasi coperta da una pellicola argentata che sotto il collo della divinità e sopra l'occhio pare abbia ceduto, mostrando un materiale sintetico.

No la calamita non l'attira,poi l'ho pesata con la pesa di casa.

A me sembra che qualcuno l'abbia limata tutta attorno e immersa nell'argento tipo.

Perché l'argento viene via e sotto c'è quel colore grigiastro
