Un esemplare incuso di Metaponto (classe XI Noe-Johnston) riconiato su un didramma agrigentino sarà prossimamente in asta:

Lot 43. LUCANIA, Metapontion. Circa 470-440 BC. AR Nomos (20mm, 7.55 g, 12h). Ear of barley with five grains / Incuse ear of barley with six grains. Noe Class XI, – (unlisted with five grains); HN Italy 1484. Lightly toned, some scratches, area of roughness on obverse, die break on reverse, overstruck on a didrachm of Akragas (part of crab visible on the reverse). Good VF.

Una testimonianza importante che amplia e valorizza un fenomeno largamente diffuso in Magna Grecia, come documentano ulteriori casi di reimpressione su numerario di Agrigento apparsi in progresso di tempo sul mercato antiquario.

Peccato sia impossibile (?) poter identificare almeno uno dei conii usati per battere il sottotipo akragantino dell’esemplare di apertura.

 

Allego una discussione in cui avevamo sondato l’argomento per diverse zecche, giusto per una panoramica che forse vale la pena riproporre.
