FRANCE / CAPETIAN DYNASTY Louis XIII (1610-1643). Pattern ten-louis gold coin (100 livres) with laureate head, plain edge, 1640, A, Paris.
Obverse: LVD. XIII. D. G. - FR. ET. NAV. REX. Laureate head of the King to the right, below (date).
Reverse: CHRISTVS. REGNAT. VINCIT. ET. IMPERAT. Cross formed of eight letters L, each arm crowned, with A in a circle in the centre, flanked by four lilies diverging from the centre.
Dy.1294 - G.62 - Kind/BnF 1466 (same obverse die) - Drs (1987) PP1 - KM.114 - Fr.406; Gold - 66.89 g - 44.4 mm - 6 h.
This type is known with a reeded edge (MDC 16 no. 1297) or a plain edge (our example). Only minimal adjustment marks. Uniform wear, with small marks that barely stain the fields. Slight brushing marks. Spectacular and very rare. About Uncirculated.
The production of multiples of gold coins in modules of 8 or 10 louis by Jean Warin is known from two documents in the National Archives, published and analysed by Fernand Arbez and Christian Charlet, Une médaille d’or de 100 livres, à l’effigie de Louis XIII, volée et restituée à Jean Warin en 1641, BSFN, March 2014, pp. 66-70. The multiples of louis weighing 54 g or 67.5 g have been described as 8- and 10-louis gold coins since Hoffmann's work in 1878, and referred to as such by Ciani in 1926, Duplessy in 1989 and 1999, Droulers in various editions, etc. However, for F. Leblanc in 1690, these examples were reported as plaisir coins. More recently, J. Lafaurie and P. Prieur, in the unpublished third volume of their work, Les monnaies des rois de France (The Coins of the Kings of France), consider these examples to be patterns of types that were not adopted. Subsequently, the archival texts published by Arbez and Charlet confirm the date of these patterns, which were indeed made by Jean Warin in 1640. However, these coin-like trials remained without legal tender status. We will adopt their classification with the names pattern of four louis (40 livres), eight louis (80 livres) or ten louis d'or (100 livres).

E la base d'asta parte dalla modica cifra di 200.000 € ... Fortunato il suo acquirente non per la disponibilità economica, ma perché è una moneta bellissima anche con i suoi 'difettucci' !

Mah... Non esageriamo! Una cosa è una passione/hobby/passatempo ma non si dovrebbe passare alla patologia! Altrimenti diventeremo come  ludopatici o tossici che si indebitano per una dose di adrenalina o di qualche porcheria!
