Very fine, brown part earthern patina, very rare.

Il Koinon dei Macedoni sotto l'Impero Romano era una confederazione religiosa e amministrativa di città macedoni risalente ai re macedoni sotto Perseo e Filippo V. La capitale del Koinon era situata a Beroia, dove si celebravano i Giochi Olimpici Pentetrici. Le monete coniate dal Koinon pubblicizzavano regolarmente le glorie del passato, in particolare quella del più grande macedone Alessandro Magno. Questa moneta fu coniata durante il regno di Gordiano III nel 242 d.C., quando Gordiano III attraversò la città per muovere guerra all'Impero Sasanide o Persiano. Raffigura la testa di Alessandro sul dritto con lo sguardo rivolto verso l'alto, a indicare il suo pothos (desiderio) di compiere l'impossibile e di ascendere agli dei. Il rovescio raffigura Alessandro che carica in battaglia sul dorso del suo amato cavallo, Bucefalo. Il collegamento con Gordiano e la sua emissione è un tentativo dell'imperatore di ripetere la stessa impresa di Alessandro e di distruggere l'Impero Persiano. La storia dimostra che Gordiano fallì nella sua battaglia contro i Sasanidi e fu ucciso in seguito alla sconfitta.

Questa moneta proviene da una delle prime emissioni seleucidi di Susa. Mentre i tetradrammi di questa zecca sotto Seleuco sono piuttosto comuni, le dramme sono molto rare. Questa emissione fu la prima seleucide a presentare la testa di cavallo cornuta, che divenne un simbolo piuttosto comune durante il regno di Seleuco. Il distatere di Alessandro III il Grande era la moneta d'oro più grande mai vista nel mondo greco e aveva il valore di 40 dramme d'argento. Sebbene i distateri fossero stati evidentemente coniati in precedenza durante il regno di Alessandro, la produzione più consistente iniziò dopo il 325 a.C. circa, mentre egli stava concludendo la sua campagna indiana ed era in viaggio di ritorno a Babilonia. Più o meno nello stesso periodo, Alessandro congedò formalmente 10.000 dei suoi veterani e li rimandò in Macedonia con tutta la paga accumulata in un decennio di servizio, più un bonus di un talento, ovvero 6.000 dramme, per ogni uomo. Il bonus da solo rappresentava 15 anni di paga di guerra, una somma inimmaginabile per questi guerrieri di carriera. È facile pensare che i distateri d'oro possano essere stati coniati come parte di questo accordo, poiché l'equivalente di un talento in argento poteva essere pagato piuttosto comodamente in 150 distateri. Tuttavia, la maggior parte della coniazione più tardiva avvenne in Macedonia, presso le zecche di Anfipoli e Aigai, piuttosto che presso le zecche orientali come Babilonia o Tarso lungo la linea di marcia. Forse la nuova, imponente moneta era destinata esclusivamente agli ufficiali superiori; in alternativa, anziché essere costretti a portare con sé le loro nuove ricchezze, ai soldati potrebbe essere stata rilasciata una speciale forma di riserva che dava loro diritto a ricevere il pagamento completo una volta tornati in patria.

Il mio unico bronzo di Alessandro e la descrizione fatta dal venditore "Roman Coins GB"

Salve @joannes carolus,

La peculiarità di questo bronzo (a memoria già visto) coniato dalla Lega macedone sotto l'Impero Romano, specificamente durante il regno dell'imperatore Alessandro Severo (222-235 d.C.), sta nelle prime due lettere della scritta ΝΕΩΚΟ legate tra loro in una sola lettera, con la E costruita sul gambo della N.

La scritta completa è NЄΩKOPΩN e si traduce in “neocorato” o “neocoria”, un titolo onorifico assegnato dal sec. II d.C. alle città che innalzavano templi e davano giochi in onore dell’imperatore.

Il neocorato cittadino era conferito dal senato e rappresentava un grande vanto, un segno di importanza per le città che con questo titolo ostentato su monete e iscrizioni diventavano "custodi" (neocori) del culto imperiale.

Su questa moneta la scritta ΝΕΩΚΟ è preceduta da una B (beta maiuscola) che sta per 2, indicando che la città emittente aveva ottenuto un secondo neocorato.
