Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck / ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus seated left on backless throne, left leg drawn back, feet on ground line, eagle in right hand, scepter in left; dolphin downward in left field, Π• monogram below throne. Interessante il prezzo iniziale fissato a 1 USD, la stima di 200 USD e l’hammer di aggiudicazione a 528 USD.

Il tetradramma fa parte della serie che il Price attribuisce alla Macedonia (‘Anfipoli’) nel periodo 320-317 a. C. circa, caratterizzati dal monogramma Π (pi greco maiuscolo) con un globetto all’interno sotto il trono di Zeus e numerati da 128 a 133 e da 135 a 140. I tetradrammi differiscono per il simbolo nel campo a sinistra, che nel caso del Price 133 è un delfino a destra in nuoto verso il basso, ben evidente nella foto della descrizione nel Price e negli esemplari che ho tratto dalla rete.

Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; dolphin in left field, pellet in Π below throne. Price 133; Troxell, Studies, Issue L7. EF.

La moneta è stata coniata dopo la morte di Alessandro, sotto Perdicca o Antipatro, reggenti durante il regno congiunto del fratellastro di Alessandro mentalmente disabile, Filippo III, e del figlio neonato di Alessandro, Alessandro IV. Filippo era il figlio bastardo di Filippo II e Filinna, una bellissima ballerina di Larissa. Né Filippo III (per la mente) né Alessandro IV (per l’età) erano in grado di governare e il potere era detenuto dai reggenti. Nel 317 a. C. Olimpiade fece uccidere Filippo III per assicurare la successione del nipote, ma Alessandro IV non avrebbe mai governato perché nel 311 a. C. fu giustiziato assieme a sua madre Roxane dal reggente Cassandro.

Si legge nella descrizione del tetradramma del post precedente che l’esemplare era stato presentato alle aste Roma 10 nel 2015 e Roma 7 nel 2014. Questa è la foto della moneta proposta con stima 1.000 GBP in entrambe le aste e rimasta invenduta.

Dal confronto del grado di conservazione assegnato nelle due aste, esso risulta FDC nel 2014 e nel 2015, mentre nell’asta CNG del 2016 (v. post precente) è diventato EF (il nostro SPL) con una leggera patina (lightly toned).

Quanto alla stima, è passata da 1000 GBP (pari a 1295 USD) delle aste Roma a 500 USD dell’asta CNG: come dire una sottovalutazione del 61,4%.
