20 cents "Exagon" dated 1918 and 1919 (plus a few 1920) were minted over recycled Umberto I 20 cent coins (dated 1894 and 1895), that were withdrawn from circulation in 1914. This because the scarcity of nickel during WWI. 20-cent coins of the Italian Kingdom were called "nichelini" because they were made of nickel. The term "nichelino" is also used for the American 5-cent coin, that is called "nickel" in America. Also American "nickels" changed composition during the World War (but, in this case, the second) because of nickel scarcity.
