villa66 Posted November 26, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 26, 2016 (edited) Ho comprato questo errore di zecca nel 1997. Per divertimento, quale intervallo di data e tipo è questa moneta americana? v. --------------------------------------------------- I bought this mint error in 1997. matteo95 Posted November 26, 2016 Share #2 Posted November 26, 2016 I would go for a "Jefferson" five-cent. piece , in particular with the designer's initials ( FS ) added below the bust .. so 1966- 1997 period.
 Awards

5 Cent Jefferson 1966-1982
 villa66 Posted November 26, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted November 26, 2016 I’m learning a lot about sports! You guys are correct about it being a Jefferson 5-cent piece of the 1938-2003 design type, and so far we have a process that can be thought through thusly: 1. Coin purchased in 1997; possible production dates of 1998-2003 are excluded. Possible range is 1938-1997. 2. No mintmark above Monticello; possible production dates of 1943-1945 are excluded. Possible range is 1938-1942 and 1946-1997. 3. Initials FS are present below Jefferson’s portrait; possible production dates 1938-1965 are excluded. Possible date range is 1966-1997. 4. ? I’ll leave this open a few more hours…. v.

villa66 Posted November 27, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted November 27, 2016 Let’s see….the presence of the designer’s initials FS and the purchase date of 1997 makes this a coin of 1966-1997. Then… 4. On the obverse behind Jefferson is a mintmark. The Jeffs of 1965-1967 had no mintmarks, which narrows the possible date range to 1968-1997. 5. The mintmark is a “P.” The Jeffs of 1968-70 carried only “D” and “S” mintmarks, which narrows the possible date range to 1971-1997. 6. Philly’s “P” does not appear on Jefferson nickels (except 1942-45) until 1980, which gives a possible date range of 1980-1997. Or, in more familiar terms , from the Moscow Olympics to Super Bowl XXXI. v.
