villa66 Posted November 17, 2018 #1 Posted November 17, 2018 Were the new 20-lire pieces of 1957 ever called "Marenghi?" Maybe in fun? Maybe as wry comment? Can anyone please say why it was allowed to seemingly wither in 1959 and then die? v. Quote
luke_idk Posted November 24, 2018 #2 Posted November 24, 2018 I never heard anything about that, but let's wait for someone else who was born earlier than me. 1 Quote

I think it's better if you ask in Repubblica https://www.lamoneta.it/forum/9-repubblica-1946-2001/ petronius 1 Quote
apollonia Posted December 12, 2018 Supporter #4 Posted December 12, 2018 The ‘Repubblica Italiana’ 20-lire coins minted from 1957 to 1959 have the reeded edge, whereas those minted later (1968-2001) have the smooth edge. I think that only the 20-lire pieces minted from 1957 to 1959 are called "Marenghi" because these 20-lire gold coins too have a reeded edge. 1 Quote
