Laodicea ad Lycum è un sito archeologico vasto e splendido, con resti del periodo greco, romano e bizantino. Al di là del fiume Lycum si vede Hierapolis, l'attuale Pamukkale, anche lei ricchissima di monumenti antichi, fra cui un teatro ottimamente conservato.

Sammlung Peter Weiß, Kiel, erworben zwischen 1967 und 2015.
Bei dem auf der Rückseite der Münze genannten Zeuxis Philalethes könnte es sich um den bei Strabon (Geographie, 12,8, 20 [580c]) erwähnten berühmten Arzt handeln, der im frühen 1. Jh. n. Chr. eine Ärzteschule im Tempel des Men Karou bei Laodikeia eingerichtet hatte. Diese Vermutung wird durch die Darstellung des Schlangenstabes bekräftigt.
Zeuxis Philalethes (the 'Truth-lover'), could be the famous physician, founder of the Asian branch of the 'school' of Herophilus, who is mentioned by Strabo (Geography 12. 8. 20 [580c]). He established a medical 'school' at the temple of Men Karou between Laodicea and Carura.
