Corinto

Un esemplare piuttosto raro di statere di Corinto con Pegaso non in volo bensì scalpitante  a terra e che apparentemente morde le redini .

Sarà il 10 Gennaio in vendita CNGTriton  XXVI al n. 164 .

CORINTHIA. Corinth. Circa 405-345 BC. Stater (Silver, 24.0 mm, 8.60 g, 9 h). Ϙ Pegasos standing left, with trailing reins, his left leg raised and his head bent down as if preparing to roll over. Rev. Head of Aphrodite to left, wearing Corinthian helmet. BMC 173. BCD Corinth 62 (same obverse die). Calciati 215 (same dies). Ravel 500 (same dies). A very rare variant. Perfectly centered and very attractive, with a remarkable depiction of Pegasus and a reverse of great elegance. Obverse lightly struck and with traces of overstriking, otherwise, extremely fine.

Stater (Silver, 8.53 g 3), c. 400-350. Pegasus, with trailing reins and pointed wing, feeding to left; below, . Rev. Helmeted head of Athena to left. BCD 62. BMC 173. Ravel 500. Rare. Nicely toned and with an unusually pleasing obverse. Nearly extremely fine.

CORINTHIA, Corinth. Circa 400-375 BC. AR Stater (8.06 g, 6h). Pegasos grazing left; koppa below / Helmeted head of Athena left. Ravel 500 (P249/T348); Pegasi 215 (same dies as illustration); BCD Corinth 62 (same obv. die); SNG Copenhagen 49 (same obv. die). VF, toned, a few scratches under tone. Overstruck on uncertain type. Rare.
