ID Roman object

We are seeking as much information as possible and a definitieve identification of this likely Roman object . 

This object was found during archaeological excavations in The Netherlands. 

It is a cast bronze piece with inscriptions on 4 sides . Wood remains were found in the hollow interior. 

Demensions: 52 × 27 mm / 55 gr./ cast bronze 

It has similarities with a part of the standard as we see on the image .

Yes , this object is fully hollow . Regarding the wooden remains inside probely a wooden stick / spear ?   was stick true.

Thank you, it's a very interesting object! Both the form, the inscriptions and the wooden material found inside point towards your interpretation as a standard.

I asked about the lower part because the only other idea that came to my mind was an inkwell (atramentarium); some troncoconic metallic ones are known in literature, but they obviously require a closed base (and some arrangements for the upper part for a lid to close it and prevent the ink to dry), so it can be easily exluded for your object.

Ciao @Ajax Si può essere più preciso sul contesto archeologico? Urbano, militare, o oggetto isolato scoperto nel corso di scavi di archeologia preventiva? 
È stato possibile effettuare una datazione al radiocarbonio (carbonio 14) del pezzo di legno?

Se, come si intuisce dal testo dell’articolo (in olandese e sfocato ), compaiono su ogni faccia i nomi punzonati di un centurione e di un soldato, l’uso militare è già stabilito, anche se la sua funzione resta ancora ignota, e si tratterebbe di un oggetto che viene trasmesso da un soldato all’altro? L’ipotesi di un elemento di un’insegna romana è ovviamente la prima cosa che viene in mente, ma temo che in questo ambito, per mancanza di conoscenze, ci manchi anche l’immaginazione.

It really looks like the part where the eagle or the imago imperatoris is attached to the wooden shaft.
But from what I know, it should have a circular cross-section or, at least, a shape that tapers downwards.

This object is found during archaeological excavations near the Roman fortress Castellum Carvium , camp of Legio I Germanica .

This camp is located on the River Rhine near Tolkamer - Spijk on the Roman border and defence zone The Limes

This is 50 km from Xanten/ Colonia Ulpia Traiana and 40 km from Nijmegen/ Ulpia Noviomagus
