KINGS OF MACEDON. Perdikkas II, 451-413 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 15 mm, 2.46 g, 12 h), heavy series, circa 437/6-432/1. Horseman, wearing petasos, holding two spears and riding horse to right; below, dog standing right. Rev. Forepart of a lion to right; above, kerykeion; all within incuse square. Raymond 200 (A26d/HP24c). SNG Copenhagen 500 (same dies). Rare with dog on the obverse. Beautifully toned and unusually attractive. Minor flan faults (or traces of overstriking?) on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet decorated with a coiled serpent. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ Nike standing front, head to left, with her wings spread, holding laurel wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; to left, trident-head downward. Price 172. Beautifully struck and sharp. Some doubling on the obverse and with a light scuff on the reverse edge, otherwise, about extremely fine.

Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, ΠΡΟ above crested helmet to right; below throne, HPA. Ciao, immagino faccia parte della tua collezione. Complimenti. Allego la descrizione del Price 1177, unico tetradramma con il monogramma AP nel campo a sinistra attribuito a questa zecca.

Il monogramma sotto il trono è molto simile a quello della tua moneta, che quindi si può classificare come una variante del Price 1177.

D/ Testa del giovane Eracle (a dx) che indossa una pelle di leone.

R/ Zeus (a sx) seduto su trono tenendo aquila e scettro; a destra ALEXANDROY; in esergo BASILEOS. Nel campo a sinistra Λ e, sotto, Sigma in cornice di tre lati; monogramma AP sotto il trono.

La S in incuso sotto il Sigma e i due incusi laterali sono contrassegni e sigla dell’incisore Peter Sousek (https://www.antiquanova.com/).

Il simbolo sotto il trono associato a Λ contraddistingue i tetradrammi di Arado Price 3320/Müller 1362; associato a Sigma (senza cornice) contraddistingue i tetradrammi della stessa zecca Price 3316. La data di coniazione è ca. 324/3-320 a. C. per entrambi.

La riproduzione (Ag: 16,50 g, 27 mm) riunisce i simboli dei tetradrammi Price 3320 e Price 3316 della zecca di Arado.
