Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / ΣΕΛΕVΚΟ[V] to left, Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; without any monograms or mint symbols. Unpublished in the standard references. VF, toned, test cut which is part of the fourrée.

Imitazione in quanto il ‘test cut’ dovrebbe indicare che la moneta è buona avendo superato il test, quando invece il peso rivela che si tratta di un suberato.

Celticized head of Zeus right / Horse left; wheel with four spokes above. Popović pl. 8, 12–pl. 9, 10; OTA 188/2-3; Lanz 458–9; CCCBM I 99 corr. (type); KMW 1110-1. VF, toned, light cleaning marks, a couple light scratches. Well centered and struck.

Sul rovescio è stato rimosso il cavaliere che appare sulle emissioni di Filippo II, rimpiazzandolo con una ruota sopra il cavallo. Solo che in questa operazione l’incisore ha mantenuto la gambe e il piede del cavaliere, che sono ancora visibili sul lato del cavallo.

Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, wearing elephant skin and aegis / Athena Alkidemos advancing right, brandishing spear and wearing shield; illegible “monogram” to inner left; to right, YE and eagle standing right on thunderbolt. Unpublished. VF, lightly toned, granular surface, scratch on obverse, graffito in field on reverse.

E’ descritta come l’unica imitazione basata sulle monete di Tolomeo I come satrapo.

This coin is a very high quality imitation that would likely pass for an official issue. It’s true origin is only betrayed by the unusual obverse style that is aberrant for Sidon and the minor errors in Philip’s name. The deeply concave reverse suggests a mint in the east, perhaps in Persis.

Near EF, toned, very minor porosity. Struck in high relief.

La Sigma nel campo a sinistra sta per 18 (posizione della lettera nell’alfabeto greco classico) e indica il diciottesimo anno di Abdalonimo, corrispondente al 316/5 a. C.

ΣI sotto il trono, mancanti nell’imitazione, sono le iniziali della zecca di Sidone.

Notare che le iniziali della zecca e la numerazione erano prima in lettere fenicie e poi in quelle dell’alfabeto greco, a cominciare dalla K che stava per il decimo anno e continuando fino alla Omega per il ventiquattresimo anno.

Il Price cataloga come F85 un tetradramma 3504 falso (vol. 1 pag. 513) senza riportare la foto, ma con il riferimento al Bulletin on Counterfeits, 5.1/2 (1980), 1.4.

Sulla Baia è proposto questo esemplare che a mio avviso non può essere autentico in quanto (aspetto funereo a parte) pesa 15,36 g a confronto di un valore medio di 17 g per gli esemplari ufficiali.
